What can SBS Gold Internet Banking and i-guard offer you?
SBS Gold IB gives you the freedom, choice and safety to manage your own bill payments independent of SBS:
You will be able to:
• Edit/create/delete bill payees independently
• Edit/create/suspend/delete your own pending payments
• Make one off payments
To use SBS Gold, you need to be registered with i-guard.
What is i-guard?
- i-guard is an additional Internet Banking safety feature employing two factor authenticaton security. This gives you extra security and peace of mind when transacting on your accounts.
- Your i-guard token is used in addition to your login and password if you request specific transactions or actions during your Internet Banking session
- SBS Gold Internet Banking features are not available without being registered for i-guard.
What is SBS Gold Internet Banking?
SBS Gold Internet Banking will allow you the freedom to create Bill Payees and manage/edit your bill payments online yourself, without needing to contact SBS.

Why hasn’t SBS offered this before now? Other banks have offered self-payee management for some time.
- Our standard Internet Banking service safeguards our members in the unlikely event that a members internet security is breached. A hacker can only transfer money to payees already set up by the member. Allowing members to create their own payees changes that.
- Your Internet Banking security is decreased when you can load your own payees. Some banks (here and overseas) have reported cases of hackers accessing other peoples internet banking, setting up a new payee (to themselves) and stealing their money. Here at SBS your internet security is paramount and we’ve designed SBS Gold Internet Banking to prevent this from happening to you.
How will SBS Gold Internet Banking be safe from hackers?
i-guard is an additional security device that enables you to create and manage your bill payees, by providing you a random code to enter when making these changes. So, even if someone could hack into your Internet Banking, they would be unable to transfer your money to themselves – because they won’t have your i-guard token.
What will it cost?
- At SBS, we go out of our way to offer our members the lowest possible fees and for many of our services we don’t charge at all. Services such as amending automatic payments/direct debits, editing/creating bill payments, are FREE whether you do this yourself or let us do it for you (some banks charge between $1 and $5 for these services). We do need to pass on a small cost to purchase the i-guard tokens, but we feel it’s worth the extra security.
- SBS Gold Internet Banking will cost $2.00 per month, plus 25c per i-guard token activation (i-guard activation is only required for certain functions and is limited to once per session). We’ll only charge the 25c if and when you use the functionality in a session, not every time you log in.
- Once you’ve used your i-guard during a session, you can perform as many actions as you like – all for one low cost of 25c (remember, some banks charge you $2 per change to your bill payments and automatic payments).
What happens if I don’t want to use SBS Gold Internet Banking?
Our standard Internet Banking service is still extremely secure and your current Bill Payment functionality will remain the same – you just need to contact us each time you wish to add/edit payees, or make one-off transfers. You’ll see a few enhancements to the site, making it easier to use, and these will be available to all of our Internet Banking customers. We'll let you know what these enhancements are closer to the time.
