The Tournament
TOURNAMENT OBJECTIVES
- To encourage and expose amateur golf locally and support and encourage amateur golf on a national basis.
- To provide the opportunity for our many sponsors and patrons to support deserving charitable organisations in a special and satisfying way.
- To provide the opportunity for all golf and service clubs in Southland to become fully involved and integrated in a project through the incorporation of a special teams event within the Am Am Tournament.
- To provide a permanent tournament in Southland along similar lines to the Eisenhower Teams Event for New Zealand’s top amateur players.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
Friday 2 March 2012 - Am Am Tournament
The event known as the Am Am tournament precedes the Invitational proper on the Friday. This very popular event provides the opportunity for the general golfing public to play with the top amateur golfers in the country, and for many is the highlight of their golfing career. All of our sponsors are requested to nominate representatives and these players are in turn drawn to play with one of the invited provincial team members, in a four person teams event.
The Am Am prizegiving function provides us with an opportunity to acknowledge the tremendous support we receive from all of our sponsors - without whose backing the tournament would not be possible. The Friday night Am Am prizegiving and welcome for the teams is kindly hosted by the Invercargill Licensing Trust and their representatives together with Invercargill Mayor Tim Shadbolt who join our Gold, Silver and Bronze sponsors for the evening’s celebrations.
